What will I be doing?

  • Working as part of a group of volunteers to support an individual who has been convicted of a sexual offence and wants help to safely resettle into the community
  • Holding the service user to account for their past actions, goals and current behaviour
  • Contributing to effective risk management by working alongside Probation and Police professionals
  • Helping the service user to maintain positive changes in their life and avoid reoffending
  • Offering a listening ear and emotional support
  • Providing non-judgemental feedback and guidance to the service user

What impact will this have?

  • By taking part in a Circle, volunteers help to reduce feelings of social isolation within service users, which helps to reduce their risk of reoffending
  • Volunteers share relevant information with professionals who are working with service users in order to assist with effective risk management
  • Volunteers improve the safety of their local communities

Commitment

  • Volunteers should be able to commit to a Circle for 12-18 months
  • Volunteers should expect to attend a weekly meeting for approx 2 hours whilst taking part in a Circle

What else do I need to know?

  • Volunteering opportunities are available across all London Boroughs
  • The Circle meetings take place once a week, but the time/day will depend on when volunteers are available - this will be discussed with volunteers after training. We work with volunteers who either have daytime or evenings available during the week
  • Please provide an email address when expressing an interest in the volunteering role - this will enable us to forward to you further information and an application pack

Training

  • Volunteers must attend a 2 day Initial Volunteer Training event
  • Supplementary training is offered to all volunteers on topics relevant to the volunteering role and the criminal justice system more widely
  • Volunteers are provided with supervision by their Circle Coordinator
