Organisation aims / mission / values

  • Striving to Make a Difference - Carers of Barking & Dagenham is a registered charity limited by guarantee. We have been established for over 30 years working with Carers and their families in the borough as well as adjoining areas, including Young Carers in Thurrock. We are now also delighted to be working with Adult Carers in the London Borough of Havering.
  • Aims - Carers of Barking and Dagenham aims to assist carers to be able to have an improved quality of life by offering services and support to enable them to access services more easily through active participation in the joint planning and monitoring of community carer and service development.
  • We support people who have a caring role within the borough of Barking & Dagenham. Caring roles may include looking after and / or emotionally supporting someone who has physical or learning disabilities, mental illness, physical illness, drugs and / or alcohol misuse, long term illness / conditions.

How we deliver these aims

The organisation meets its aims by providing information, support, informal advocacy and training to those caring for an adult or child who is ill, suffering from a mental illness, addiction and / or has a disability.

Who benefits from our work

We support a large number of carers within the borough of Barking & Dagenham, along with Young Carers in Thurrock and Adult Carers in Havering. We have Young Carers Projects in both Barking & Dagenham and Thurrock and we support young people aged from 8 - 19 years old. This could be with 1:1 support, respite sessions and residential trips, tutor session and much more. We support young people and Parent Carers of young people who have SEN in Barking & Dagenham, who may need confidential and impartial information, advice and support around their educational needs, to ensure their voices are being heard and the EHC plan process is being followed. We also provide information, advice and support, along with training for adult carers and also have a Dementia service. Additionally, we support carers with access to peer support groups and also have a welfare benefits service.
