What impact will this have?

  • The role of volunteers is to offer companionship and support to people affected by an emergency
  • To support centre staff to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible in the Rest Centres
  • To support evacuees and pass on any information they may need
  • All in all making an emergency rest centre a nicer, more human place to be for the evacuees who are likely to be anxious about their situation and less comfortable than they would be if they were at home
  • To alleviate the monotony of being in an emergency rest centre by providing entertainment (reading, playing an instrument, board games etc)

Commitment

  • You will need to attend at least one half-day training session
  • This role is ad hoc and you are deployed in the event of an emergency

What else do I need to know?

  • CAMERA is a new and innovative emergency response & recovery volunteer team that has launched in the London Boroughs of Camden and Hammersmith & Fulham which will enable local people, businesses and organisations to help in a time of emergency through volunteering skills and experience as well as donating goods and space. The experience of the Grenfell Tragedy has highlighted that local people want to offer their skills and experience in an emergency, but were not allowed to as there was no time to vet their skills or train them. CAMERA will enable local people who have useful skills and experience, to offer their skills in an emergency, easily. Volunteers will be fully trained and will be called upon in an emergency situation.
  • Full details about CAMERA are on our website.
  • Everyone who takes part in this project must attend this one-off training. There will be further optional training and social events at a later date. There will be a number training sessions to choose from in each intake which take place at various days and times.
