What will I be doing?

  • Meet with client on a 1:1 basis to prepare them for their assessment appointment. This meeting is likely to take place at one of BLG Mind’s offices.
  • Meet with client at assessment centre and attend assessment with them contributing as required to ensure they have the opportunity to talk about how their needs around their mental health (and potentially their physical health) needs affect them.
  • Keep BAS project coordinator up to date with whereabouts and observe good practice with regards to health and safety at all times.
  • Complete project documentation as appropriate and return to the coordinator as agreed.
  • Respect confidentiality and have appropriate boundaries when supporting and interacting with service users.
  • Promote positive understanding, awareness and attitudes towards mental health as part of your duties.

  • Improve the confidence of claimants in Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich who have Mental Health issues when attending their benefits assessment.
  • Assist claimants to fully demonstrate the difficulties they experience in their daily lives.
  • Improve the claimant's and your own knowledge and understanding of the benefits assessment procedure.

Commitment

  • Based in either Orpington, Lewisham or Greenwich depending on volunteer’s preferred location. Minimum commitment of 3-4 hours each week.
  • BLG Mind have received funding to support any person with mental health needs to attend a PIP assessment, ESA work capability assessment or assessment as a result of a Universal Credit claim. This role will meet with clients, help them prepare for the assessment, attend the assessment with them and meet with them for follow ups.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required
