What will I be doing?

  • Visiting or phoning an older person in their own home on a regular basis.
  • Escorting someone into town to do shopping or other activities providing company or conversation to alleviate isolation providing information and referring to other services.
  • Developing a relationship with the client, tackling loneliness and helping an older person feel more included.

What impact will this have?

  • As a Befriending volunteer you will contribute to alleviating feelings of loneliness and isolation.
  • Your regular visits will give older people something to look forward to.
  • You will help support an older person's well-being by listening to them and helping them feel part of the local community.

Commitment

  • Usually volunteers would speak on the phone weekly for 10-30min or meet with the person once a week in the beneficiary's house for about an hour.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will be required to supply two references, one being your current or most recent employer.
  • As per C-19 guidance, we ask for social distance and masks to be worn at all times and for you to carry hand sanitiser with you. We can provide this as necessary.

Expenses

  • We would cover your travel expenses connected to your befriending role.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

  • No formal training is required. We would provide you with all the required information and offer our Volunteer Induction training and volunteer guidelines.
