What will I be doing?

  • Volunteer befrienders offer social contact to people with memory loss and/or dementia. Befrienders offer companionship through visiting people in their own home.
  • Befrienders usually visit someone weekly for an hour or two on a regular basis, although this is flexible and depends on your availability.
  • You will spend time talking and listening and may take part in social and/or recreational activities.

What impact will this have?

  • At Age UK Kensignton & Chelsea we promote the well being of older people through providing services that will support their independence and ensure their voice in the community is heard.
  • People living with memory loss can become isolated and begin to lose touch with friends and family. A volunteer can be a lifeline, ensuring they still feel part of the local community.
  • Befriending is a very rewarding experience. It gives you the satisfaction of knowing that offering a small amount of your time is enhancing the life of someone else.
