How we deliver these aims

The Afghan Association Paiwand, commonly known as ‘Paiwand was formed in 2002 by a committed group of volunteers from the Afghan community. Its overall aim was to provide services to members of the Afghan community to help support them in the UK. The association was formed in response to the growing inequalities faced by Afghans living in the UK in the context of; housing, employment, education, mental and physical well-being. At the time, it was identified that most of the support offered by mainstream services providers in these areas lacked the type of emotional, cultural and linguistic tools to encourage this community to reach out for the support it needed. In reply, ‘Paiwand was formed. It supplements and complements services provided by statutory agencies and mainstream service providers, whilst advocating for equality and supporting community members in becoming active and inclusive members of British society, bolstering their personal skills, employability, education and promoting participating in activities that benefited them and built confidence.

Who benefits from our work

In the past thirteen years Paiwand has grown significantly, and widened its remit to supporting refugees, migrants and displaced persons from all backgrounds. It has remained a community-led organisation dependant on staff and volunteers from diverse professional backgrounds to help steer us towards longevity and further success supporting refugee and migrant communities.
