Team LDN Ambassadors Tower of London

Team London Ambassadors

Every summer, hundreds of Team London Ambassadors welcome tourists at destinations around the city. Known as London’s ‘friendly face’, they show the world the best we have to offer.

600 volunteers take part in the programme each year, dedicating 15,000 hours across nine locations for the six busiest weeks of the summer. 97% of visitors from 2017 were more likely to recommend London as a place to visit after interacting with an Ambassador.

The Team London Ambassadors programme has grown from strength to strength since its inception during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In March 2017 it won the Tourism Society Award, which recognises outstanding contributions to the development and success of the tourism industry in the UK.

London is blessed with museums, sporting venues, theatres and tourist attractions and I am incredibly proud of what we have to offer. In my role as Mayor, I will work to capitalise upon these cultural riches and grow our tourist industry. The warm welcome you give to visitors from the rest of the UK and the world will help me to achieve this.

Team London Ambassadors 2018

Why become an Ambassador?

If you love London and want to help others this is the perfect role for you. Volunteering as an Ambassador means you will be immersed in London’s culture at some of the capital’s top visitor hot spots. It will help you gain and test your knowledge of London, and is a great opportunity to practice your customer service and communications skills whilst building a great network of friends.

We will be recruiting for 2019 in due course. Please sign up to our Major Events volunteer newsletter to be kept informed about Team London Ambassador recruitment.

What skills do I need?

To become an Ambassador you do not need any specific skills, just enthusiasm and self-motivation along with good communication skills. Whilst knowledge of London is helpful it is not essential as we will give you all the training and tools you need to be fulfilled in this role.

What do I need to commit to?

All new Ambassadors will need to commit to the following;

  • Attend a one hour session at a selection day at City Hall
  • Attend a full day Foundation Training session at City Hall
  • Attend a half day Location Training session at City Hall
  • Volunteer for a minimum of five shifts during the summer period at a location of your choice.

Where can I volunteer?

There are nine possible locations that you could volunteer at. These include: Tower of London, Piccadilly Circus, Parliament Square, St James's Park, Trafalgar Square, Exhibition Road (V&A Museum), More London and Gatwick Airport (North & South Terminals).

What are the benefits?

All volunteers who are successful in the programme are provided with travel expenses, a daily refreshment allowance and Uniform and Accreditation.
In addition to this you will get a range of special opportunities from our host venues including free entry and discounts, as well as access to other exciting volunteering opportunities with our Major Events Team.
