Investing in community sports

The Mayor believes that sport has the ability to change lives, build stronger communities and improve the health and wellbeing of Londoners. That's why the Mayor is investing in community sports programmes across the city.

We'll be working in partnership with community organisations and sports clubs to provide Londoners the opportunity to get involved in sport.

A vision for sport in London

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan addresses the crowd and returning Olympic Athletes in London 2016
In his manifesto, the Mayor set out his main priorities for sport, including:

  • rebuilding the Olympic Legacy, promoting and supporting sport for more people of all ages
  • building on the city's success hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by bidding for similar global sporting events to come to London
  • working to bring a NFL franchise to London
  • working with London's football and other major sports clubs to increase the positive impact they can have in the community, especially with young people

Our future programmes are based around these priorities - with the aim of making London the sporting capital of the world.
