Opportunities for young people

Free digital training courses for eligible young Londoners. We are most keen to support young women and young people from a range of backgrounds to enter London's digital and tech workforce. 

Young Entrepreneurs

The Young Entrepreneurs project aims to prepare, coach and support young people (18 – 24 years old) in the planning and development of a startup. The funding will enable young people to be trained in the essential technical and soft skills required for the development of a successful startup, expose them to a network of successful startups, and provide ongoing support for the development of a startup, or a placement within a successful startup. The target audience is young people from currently under-represented groups in the industry, including women and people from Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups. There are two providers delivering this programme:

OneTech Talent

The OneTech Talent programme aims to prepare, coach and support young people (18 – 24 years old) in the planning and development of their startups. The funding will enable young people to be trained in the essential technical and soft skills required for the development of a successful startup, expose them to a network of successful startups, and provide ongoing support for the development of a startup, or a placement within a high-growth tech startup. The target audience is young people from currently under-represented groups in the industry, including women and people from Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups. The programme has various strands, including:

  • dedicated support for young people that want to start their own tech business, including startup weekends and a pre-Accelerator 
  • support brokering connections between young people seeking paid internships and tech startups looking for interns

Future Startup Now

Future Startup Now is an immersive introduction to the startup world. The programme includes paid three-month placements at digital startups; an intensive bootcamp to develop ideas, innovation and impact; and the opportunity to pitch for £5,000 funding and support.
Future Startup Now will offer 80 young creatives the chance to learn from leading entrepreneurs in the digital sector who are creating the startups of the future.

Digital skills training

Get industry-approved training in a specific digital area. It’s a chance to learn a mix of the technical and ‘soft’ skills that employers want.

Digify

This eight-month training programme from Livity will give you a chance to kick-start a career in digital marketing.

The scheme begins with two months' paid training where you’ll work with the Livity team. You’ll learn about digital tools, writing strategy, managing projects and coming up with fresh creative ideas.

Then it’s on to a six-month paid placement to put what you’ve learned into practice in a top consumer brand or creative agency. Contact the Livity team.

Digital Pipeline LDN

A New Direction is delivering a brand-new training course funded by the Mayor of London. In this free night school you’ll gain a foundation in Front End web development coding from General Assembly, with additional design training from D&AD and support and guidance from A New Direction.

NextGen Futures Bootcamp

This 8-week programme from NextGen futures is an exciting opportunity for Londoners aged 18 to 25 to enter the visual effects and games industries. The programme is designed to fast-track skills development that will support employment in the creative digital economy. If you want to work with the latest technologies to build a creative portfolio designed to meet industry needs, then this is the right place for you. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with leading creative businesses in London by applying for a 12-week paid internship. Apply on the NextGen Futures website.

Mayor of London, working in Partnership with the European Social Fund, has co-funded 3 digital skills training courses. They’ll offer new entry-level digital training opportunities for young people aged 16-24 who are not in education, employment or training.

Digital Pathways

New City College is delivering Digital Pathways, an exciting 10-week programme, free for eligible 16-24 year olds who are interested in a role in the digital sector. It includes:

  • An introduction to IT, Emerging Technologies, Smart Cities and VFX / gaming
  • The skills to build your own online CV and develop effective project management, pitch and presentation skills
  • Experience of working on real projects with employers
  • Your own personal digital adviser and employer mentor
  • An understanding of different digital roles and the workplace
  • Help to find a job within 4 weeks of finishing the programme - or help to progress into education.

Newham College

Newham College is delivering a  Digital Talent short course to equip young Londoners for employment in an increasingly digital economy. Providing an excellent foundation in tech and digital for young people with professional aspirations. Get in touch with Newham College for further information. 

Other opportunities

Flipside

Flipside is a new three month training product design training programme, co-created and co-delivered by London’s leading digital agencies to launch diverse talent into digital careers. During the three months, Flipsiders rotate around digital agencies, take part in two group projects, responding to briefs and pitching their digital products to an industry audience at the end of each project cycle. Flipsiders are also paid a bursary and allocated an industry mentor to support their development and help them to achieve career goals.

Brixton Finishing School for Digital Talent

The Brixton Finishing School for Digital Talent is a unique, creative industry-led 12-week course – an accelerated traineeship through which you will gain a digital marketing qualification and spend time with London’s top media agencies and owners.
There are ring fenced entry-level job opportunities with leading London media firms upon successful completion. You will have the opportunity to gain a certification in Google Digital Garage. Experts from across the digital media industry (including Facebook, Oath, WPP, McCann London) will give a wide variety of masterclasses including SEO, social media, presentation skills, conflict resolution, communication, pitching and content. Experience day trips include Facebook, Google, D&AD, Clear Channel as well as award winning creative agencies Adam & Eve and R/GA.

Digital Talent London

Digital Talent London is a programme delivered by 5E and funded by the JP Morgan Chase Foundation. The programme is designed to address London’s fast growing IT/Tech industry; by giving young Londoners the skills needed to access the employment market. Participants will have access to various IT training such as; vendor certified course developed by industry leaders like Microsoft & Cisco. Participants will also be given employability support, giving them access to employment opportunities and preparing them with the skills necessary for the workplace.
