Barnet and Southgate College were awarded £5.9 million from the Mayor’s Further Education Capital Fund which is from the Government's Growth Deal and allocated through the LEAP, to build the new Colindale Skills Centre and modernise the Southgate Centre. This investment supported the creation of new facilities, accommodating industry-simulated environments for dental sciences; assistive technology health and social care; advanced construction technologies; low carbon automotive technologies, and beauty and hairdressing skills.

How does this show what we're looking for?

  • provision of versatile, fit-for-purpose and industry-endorsed workshops and laboratories
  • responding to local economic assessments for greater volume of higher-level STEM talent
  • targeted skills development and job opportunities for disadvantaged groups

This project demonstrates best practice because:

  • the college features modern facilities, including specialist workshops and laboratories supporting the development of highly skilled professionals within priority sectors
  • the college developed flexible learning spaces that reflect working environments and can be adapted for future uses

In addition to these facilities, the college will be completing a Business Innovation Centre and low carbon automotive technologies training facilities by the end of 2018.
