City of Westminster College: connecting communities
City of Westminster College received funding from the Skills Funding Agency to help fund a brand new, state-of-the-art campus. Designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, the £100m Paddington Green Campus was opened in 2011.
How does this show what we're looking for?
- the generous terraced atrium space has been designed to embrace student interaction and allows both independent study and interactive learning
- the design also serves the local community - the public exhibition area; theatre and café are located adjacent to the main entrance so it's accessible
What did they achieve?
The Campus features superb facilities including specialist workshops and laboratories, dedicated meeting and IT spaces, a Sport England- specification sports hall, dance studio and gym/fitness suite and the professional quality Sarah Siddons Theatre.
Since completion the College has:
- benefited from a 25% rise in student enrolments with a significant improvement in student success rates over the same period
- received a Royal Institute of British Architects Awards and New London Architecture Award in the Learning Category
