All London Green Grid

Our All London Green Grid SPG applies the principles of the East London Green Grid to promote green infrastructure across the capital.

What guidance does the SPG provide?

The SPG provides guidance for designing and managing green and open spaces to bring about previously unrealised benefits. In doing so, we aim to encourage boroughs, developers, and communities to collectively increase the delivery of green infrastructure for London.

These benefits include:

  • sustainable travel
  • flood management
  • healthy living
  • creating distinctive destinations
  • the positive economic and social consequences brought about by these factors

Which London Plan policies does the document provide guidance on?

The provision, enhancement and management of green infrastructure is the central focus of London Plan policy 2.18.

At the policy’s core is the concept of a “green grid”, a network of green and open spaces integrated with the Blue Ribbon Network of rivers and waterways. This network of spaces functions best when designed and managed as an interdependent ‘grid’.

Although these policies relate to the London Plan 2011, they are still relevant to the London Plan 2015
