Healthy Schools London visits by Deputy Mayor, Victoria Borwick
Deputy Mayor, Victoria Borwick is a huge supporter of Healthy Schools London and has recently visited two schools and given out HSL Awards to schools in Kingston and Enfield

Visit to Hambrough Primary School, Ealing
Victoria Borwick's first visit was to Hambrough Primary School in Southall, Ealing where she found out about the school's Healthy Schools London work around ensuring that pupils felt happy, safe and confident at school. The Deputy Mayor met the School Council to see their progress in reviewing the Anti-Bullying Charter. She also met the mini-mentors to find out about their roles and responsibilities and got involved in circle time activities. A film of the school's work will be available in June.

Visit to Worcesters Primary School, Enfield
The Deputy Mayor's visit focussed on how Worcesters promotes healthy living through Personal Social Health Education (PHSE) including circle time to promote positive relationships and how the school council is promoting healthy eating. The school's mission statement is ‘Be the best you can be’ which helps pupils learn the importance of self awareness, self responsibility and resilience. Some activities introduced by the school include revised lunchtime procedures and the school council investigating food products to support pupils to eat a healthy packed lunch.

Healthy Schools London launch in Kingston
On Monday 25 November 2013, the Deputy Mayor, Victoria Borwick presented the first Kingston school with their Healthy Schools London Bronze Award. Hosted by the Leader of Kingston Council, Liz Green, Kingston Healthy Schools held a launch event to encourage schools across the Borough to get involved in the Healthy Schools London programme. Children at Burlington Junior School looked after chickens, collecting the eggs for cooking lessons, and grew fruit and vegetables in an allotment for the school kitchen. Now the school has received a Healthy Schools London Bronze Award.
A recent event was held on 2 April where Cllr Green awarded another 5 schools with their Bronze Awards.

Healthy Schools London Awards Ceremony in Enfield
London’s Deputy Mayor Victoria Borwick presented representatives from 19 Enfield schools with a Bronze Award during a ceremony at Worcesters Primary on 12 February. The event also included a performance by Face Front Inclusive Theatre about how violence affects the emotional wellbeing of children. Furthermore two pupil leaders from West Lea Special Sports College's Energy Club demonstrated their skills. Shahed Ahmad, Director of Public Health introduced the Awards and Councillor Ayfer Orhan closed the event.

Healthy Schools London Celebration event 9 June 2014
We are deighted to be celebrating Healthy Schools London's first anniversary. We currently have 918 London schools that have registered to take part in Healthy Schools London and 276 schools have achieved a HSL Bronze Award. 13 schools have achieved a Silver Award and 1 school has achieved the first Gold Award. Confirmed speakers at the event include:
- Boris Johnson, Mayor of London
- Cllr Victoria Borwick, Londonwide Assembly Member Deputy Mayor of London
- Prof Greg Whyte, Physical Activity expert and trainer to Comic Relief ambassadors
- John Vincent, Author of School Food Plan and LEON Founder
- John Martin - Principal Bacon’s College, Southwark
Invitations will be sent to Healthy Schools Leads in each London Borough and they will select 4 representatives to attend from their Borough. All schools that have achieved Silver and Gold Awards will be invited to receive their Awards at the event. We are unfortunately unable to accomodate the schools that have achieved a Bronze Award at the event so we will be producing a short film that will name and celebrate the 276 London schools that have achieved a HSL Bronze Award.
