The London SME Fund

The SME Fund, called MMC London Fund, is a £28 million venture capital fund for SMEs that was launched in April 2013 by the Deputy Mayor for Business and Enterprise, Kit Malthouse.

The fund is operated by Funding London and MMC ventures, and provides equity finance for early stage London-based businesses that can generate significant levels of economic growth. It is a co-investment fund made up of £9 million from the London ERDF programme with the rest coming from investment returns from previous funds and private investors. The co-investment multiple so far is around 4 times the amounts invested from the MMC London Fund.

Who is it aimed at?

The fund is targeted at early-stage, high-growth small businesses in sectors where UK is a world leader and which are priorities for the Mayor of London, including:

  • Software and IT,
  • Digital and e-commerce
  • Creative and media
  • Financial services
  • Leisure
  • Education
