What Retrofit Accelerator has achieved
Since 2009, Retrofit Accelerator - Workplaces has become an award-winning programme used to help London's public buildings and assets improve their energy efficiency. Retrofit Accelerator not only helps the public sector reduce carbon emissions but also provides guaranteed energy savings.
Retrofit Accelerator and TfL have been working together for several years to reduce carbon consumption across TfL's estates portfolio. In this time the programme has expanded to included 22 buildings retrofitted with energy conservation measures – in particular their headquarters at Palestra House, where TfL partnered with E.ON to implement energy improvements guaranteed to reduce carbon emissions by eight per cent each year.
Twelve NHS Trusts in London have signed up to the Retrofit Accelerator programme which will guarantee savings of at least £4 million a year. Epsom & St Helier’s NHS Trust and Newham University Hospital have used the programme successfully and following the endorsement of NHS Improvement, ten more NHS trusts in London have now signed up for energy saving measures.
Transport for London (TfL) received four nominations at the CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) building performance awards, winning the award for Facilities Management team for works across their estates portfolio in particular the completed works at Palaestra House.
The awards focus on recognising the measurable performances from organisations, products and projects that demonstrate engineering excellence across the building industry. TfL were recognised for their exemplary efforts to deliver outstanding building performance across a portfolio of assets.
London Borough of Hounslow won the Energy Efficient Partnership Award at Energy Awards for their Retrofit Accelerator – Workplaces schools programme assisted by Larkfleet group who delivered the borough’s award winning scheme. The same programme was also shortlisted for the Community Initiative Award at the Energy Institute Awards.
