This half-day meeting for Europe-based climate negotiators and diplomats will be based around ‘gaming’ various scenarios that draw on an interactive climate simulation tool, developed by Climate Interactive, to consider the potential roles and risks of employing Negative Emissions Technologies (NETs) to meet the Paris Agreement temperature targets and to manage the pathway to net-zero emissions.

It will consider the interactions of climate sensitivity, non-CO2 gases, and NETs and land-use. The aim is to draw attention to the assumptions behind the role of NETs in Integrated Assessment Models’ (IAMs) various mitigation pathways, the trade-offs implicit in their deployment, different countries’ approaches to potential deployments, and to situate all this within the broader context of current dynamics within international climate negotiations and climate diplomacy.
