Warren Junior School 2019/20

Adopting a holistic approach to inclusion

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

We noticed that a significant number of pupils lacked the basic preconditions required, to receive the best experience and reach their potential as learners and well-rounded children.

What actions did you take?

The school made a number of staff appointments to support vulnerable children and their families. The appointments of a behaviour and pastoral lead, school councillor, emotional well-being co-ordinator, parent support adviser and attendance officer formed the basis of our inclusion support team.

This established the preconditions for learning to support academic progress. It allowed the teachers to focus on their classes and develop their own strengths. This ensured that pupils made significant progress with consistent outstanding teaching.

The inclusion team used their expertise to make a real difference to the lives of our whole school community by addressing social and emotional needs.

What were the outcomes?

We have significantly improved attainment, it is now consistently above the national average, whilst enhancing pupils’ emotional well-being.
