Interventions to ensure all children make good progress

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

  • Children who achieved 2C at KS1 and made slower progress in KS2
  • Parents unable to support learning at home
  • Mobile pupils with gaps in their prior knowledge

What actions did you take?

  • Half-termly pupil progress meetings discussed every child: provision already being provided, their current attainment, their needs and strengths.
  • Alongside high quality teaching, a rigorous programme of interventions was planned for every child, these included:
  • Before and after school booster sessions targeted at individuals, including sessions for higher attainers
  • Intervention sessions for children who had missed sessions through absence, to help them catch up
  • Family support worker for individuals and groups of children, to meet social and emotional needs
  • Homework clubs for children without parental support at home
  • Target work for more able pupils to ensure effective challenge

What were the outcomes?

  • Reading 83% and progress 3.00
  • Writing 83% and progress 2.99
  • Maths 83% and progress 1.92
