St Anne's Catholic Primary School
Closing the gap and increasing opportunity and aspirations
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
We have a large cohort of White British working class children who come from families who are disaffected, have low aspirations and an historical mistrust of education.
What actions did you take?
- High quality PD for all staff to ensure our children have the best teaching possible.
- Joint Practice Development through Lesson Study.
- Small class sizes so that children can have more personalised learning and teachers have more time to meet with parents.
- Exciting curriculum with a high priority on music, art, sport and school trips.
- New library, librarian and EY outdoor area.
- High quality literature available and invite our parents into the library to read with their children.
- Regular parent visits to classes.
- Attendance officer runs a Boys Skills Zone group.
- School Councillor and Learning Mentor.
- Career Breakfasts for our Year 5 and 6 pupils.
What were the outcomes?
Closed the gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils. In July 2016, our disadvantaged pupils outperformed nationally in KS2 SATS.
