Quality first teaching, tailored interventions, pre and post teaching

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

Challenges:

  • Gaps in learning, individual learning and behaviour needs, EAL.
  • Identification:
  • Pupil progress meetings, Assessment for Learning, termly assessments, data analysis, writing conferencing, narrowing gaps through analysis of age appropriate objectives.

What actions did you take?

  • Whole school approaches ensuring consistency of teaching with clear expectations, guidance and support.
  • Introduce Maths Mastery, daily Maths meetings leading to fluency, increased exposure to problem solving/ real life Maths.
  • School designed reading programmes - daily guided reading from whole class text with challenge. English curriculum based around key texts. Introduce slow writing, writing conferencing and tool box approach to learning new genres.
  • Developing teaching skills through seminar lessons, personalised CPD based on areas of development.
  • Curriculum teams developed to lead learning. Leadership structure ensures accountability for middle and subject leaders. All leaders monitor outcomes through work scrutiny and data analysis.
  • Subject leaders, lead moderation within and across phases.
  • Reflective SLT work with teams on planning, parent meetings and support.

What were the outcomes?

  • Reading: 85.5% 2019, 82.2% 2018
  • Writing: 92% 2019, 84.4% 2018
  • Maths: 91.1% 2019, 82.2% 2018
  • SPAG: 90% 2019, 93.3% 2018
