Rush Green Primary School 2019/20

Combining Proactive Strategic Interventions that Work

What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?

25 per cent of the school are vulnerable pupils; very poor attendance; low prior attainment; low performing White British contingent. The data system meant progress comparison was difficult to ascertain.

What actions did you take?

The Designated Safeguarding Lead pushed for rapid resolution of CP/CIN cases and championed attendance at case conferences and Early Help meetings. 12-week phonics intervention to target vulnerable children in year 1 and year 2. Monitored over 3-week periods for impact. Years 4 and 6, intervention set up with governor monitoring group for pupils that failed to make expected progress and/or attainment due to knowledge gaps (result of historically poor prior attendance). monitoring by key staff, including attendance, DSL, SENCo and governors to set targets, determine impact and evaluate next steps. Employed a fulltime Attendance Officer to target pupils with poor attendance. A reward system for improved attendance.

What were the outcomes?

A continuous trend of improvement. In all key stages, attainment and progress are above national for all key groups.
