Osmani Primary School
Wellbeing model for children with Social-Emotional, Mental Health difficulties
What problems were in your school and how did you identify them?
Staff identified children with significant social and emotional and mental health difficulties which were unable to be supported in a whole class setting. CAMHS services had been significantly reduced.
What actions did you take?
Using our Pupil Premium, we funded a school based therapeutic service, SideBeSide (UP - Unlocking Potential) which we integrated into our existing Pastoral Care team (Learning Mentor and SENCo). SideBeside is a school based therapeutic multi-disciplinary team, including Psychotherapists and Creative Arts Therapists, Occupational, Speech and Language therapists. A school based Team Leader co-ordinates the multidisciplinary team and offers individual and group interventions and works closely with parents.
The Pastoral Care team are now able to provide timely and appropriate support to meet individual children’s specific needs.
SideBeside has become an integral part of Osmani School. Pupils are more aware of their emotional well-being and understand how to access the different levels of support.
What were the outcomes?
Children who have participated in therapeutic support have made good or accelerated progress academically, socially, emotionally and mentally.
