Raising Achievement in Science at KS2 and KS3

Developing teachers’ subject knowledge in science aiming to develop a local and relevant year 5 to year 8 curriculum.

West C Collaborative

The project created a collaborative network of primary and secondary practitioners tasked with addressing how the skills in science teaching could best be mediated. It engaged with an existing network of SE London schools (one secondary and five primary schools).

West C Collaborative delivered professional development sessions, introduced practical science ideas and activities, and conducted lesson observations. Secondary STEM knowledge and resources were shared with Collaborative colleagues.

The evaluation reported that teachers felt positive. It was a safe forum in which subject specific and pedagogical questions could be addressed. Pupils enjoyed the practical science activities.
