The Power of Reading in Croydon

The London Borough of Croydon and The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) worked together to deliver ‘The Power of Reading in Croydon’ project. It aimed to improve pupils’ attitudes to and attainment in reading.

The project engaged with 36 schools over the two years, and developed a network of lead schools and good practice to raise the profile of reading across primary schools. Both teachers and headteachers reported that the teaching approaches learned from the project had improved creativity in teaching styles and structured the approaches suitably. By the end of the project, 100% of teachers involved were using the resources and teaching sequences produced by the project, improving the support available for teaching reading in the borough.
