The London Centre for Languages and Cultures (LCLC)

Enhancing the subject knowledge of teachers in eight languages

Pembroke college

The London Centre for Languages and Cultures (LCLC) worked with schools across West London.  It focussed on the study of languages and the transition from GCSE to A-level.  The project allowed teachers and pupils to gain first-hand experience of the wide range of university level study opportunities for talented young linguists through summer residentials. Teachers have been supported to stretch and motivate students in KS4 and KS5 with seminars and language study days. A wide range of resources have been created to aid lessons, such as videos, apps and websites.

Teachers’ improved their subject and pedagogic knowledge and increased their confidence. Teachers were encouraged to network with other teachers and maintain contact, creating a wider school learning system. Students confidence in languages increased.

It's taught me to realise it's important to learn about literature and geography of the nation rather than just the language aspect.
