Supporting the Tech and Digital sectors

London has a thriving tech community which is growing rapidly and driving much of the innovation in Europe. More than a third of all Europe’s tech giants are based in London and contribute over £56 billion to our economy. London is the digital capital of Europe, and the impact of constantly changing digital technology touches all sectors of our economy.

Mayor Sadiq Khan wants to see the benefits of new technology shared by all Londoners, and for that to happen in a way which protects London’s citizens, consumers, companies and economic interests.

Digital Connectivity

We want to ensure that London is the best connected city in Europe, where affordable superfast connections are available to all homes and small businesses.

The Mayor's plans to get London better connected, include:

  • providing mobile connectivity to London Underground tunnels
  • working with local authorities to spot and resolve areas in London with the poorest connectivity
  • a Digital Connectivity Funding Forum to help London's local authorities successfully apply for the Government's Digital Infrastructure funding

The Mayor’s Civic Innovation Challenge

The Mayor has launched his Civic Innovation Challenge – challenging London’s start-ups to develop innovative solutions to address some of the big issues facing London and Londoners: from inequality to air quality and the health challenges of an ageing population.

Winning firms will receive targeted business support, with up to £15,000 to further develop their ideas working directly with the market.

Digital Talent for London

The Mayor’s Digital Talent Programme is investing £7m to help young people get the right skills to fill a growing number of digital, creative and technology jobs. As part of Skills for Londoners, the programme is partnering with London businesses and colleges, funding new courses and improving teaching and learning for young Londoners.

If you’re aged 16-24 and want to develop your skills, or if you want to receive updates on the programme register your interest with us.

The Mayor of London’s TechInvest programme, delivered in partnership with UK Business Angels Association, invites London’s most ground-breaking tech entrepreneurs to pitch their businesses to industry-leading investors.

A series of 20 events over four years will give London’s tech companies the opportunity to pitch to an audience of the UK’s top investors, with each event focusing on a specific sector, technology or challenge.

At the launch event in January 2018, investors representing more than £1.2bn of possible investment were in the room.

London Digital Security Centre

The Centre provides simple, measurable and effective digital security solutions to businesses to help firms operate in a secure digital environment. The centre also supports victims of cyber crime and helps to prevent repeat victimisation.

The London Digital Security Centre is a not for profit organisation, founded as a joint venture between the Mayor of London, the Metropolitan Police Service and the City of London Police.
