Supporting the Life Sciences sector

London has a long history as a centre for advancement in medicine and biology and today, together with Oxford and Cambridge, forms the ‘Golden Triangle’, a global hub for life sciences.

Mayor Sadiq Khan will support different sectors to work together to solve healthcare challenges, including exploring the safe use of health data for research, supporting increased investment to allow innovative life sciences firms to grow, and enabling new life science developments to expand in London.

New and planned investments

With a unique ecosystem combining a rich network of world-class universities, renowned research centres, healthcare providers, medical charities, innovative small businesses and global industry players, London is highly attractive for investment in life sciences.

Through MedCity and working with London boroughs, universities and research institutions, the NHS and other stakeholders, the Mayor supports the growth of new life science developments in the capital.

New and planned life sciences investments across London include:

MedCity has established a ‘front-door’ to the life sciences sector in London and the Greater South East including London, Cambridge and Oxford.

Working with industry, SMEs, investors, academia and government, MedCity also helps facilitate collaboration across the sector to help turn innovations into commercial products and services that benefit both the economy and health outcomes for patients.

MedCity is a collaboration between the Academic Health Science Centres (AHSCs) in London, Cambridge and Oxford, and is co-funded by the Mayor of London.

MedTech London

The MedTech London programme provides networking opportunities, support in accessing the market and training workshops to support the growth of London’s medical device, diagnostics and digital health sector SMEs.

Funded by the Mayor of London, and working with MedCity, the South East Health Technologies Alliance (SEHTA) run free events including Business Surgeries and other mentoring, collaboration and networking opportunities.
