Smart London Innovation Networks

Supporting Advanced Urban Services

London is leading the way in services such as architecture, urban design, planning, engineering, property development, energy and transport. The application of new technologies to these disciplines, such as the ‘internet of things’, big data and predictive analysis, is creating new advanced urban services that can help cities to work better or ‘smarter’.

Mayor Sadiq Khan has set out his ambition for London to become the smartest city in the world. He will work with London’s new Chief Digital Officer, Theo Blackwell, and the Smart London Board to help secure London’s position at the forefront of innovation in advanced urban services and ‘smart cities’, starting by publishing a Smart London Plan.

Smart London Plan

The Smart London Plan will lay out in detail how we plan to achieve our ambition of harnessing the new technologies being pioneered in the capital to transform London into one of the world’s leading smart cities.

The Mayor has announced that Bloomberg Associates – the former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's philanthropic municipal consultancy – will help shape the new Smart London Plan, in partnership with the Smart London Board.

A draft Smart London Plan will be published for consultation in mid-2018.

The London Datastore

The London Datastore is a free and open data-sharing portal where anyone can access data relating to the capital. The Datastore provides more than 700 datasets on many different aspects of London’s economy and society. It is widely used by nearly 70,000 citizens, businesses, researchers and developers each month.

Sharing Cities

The Mayor is delivering Sharing Cities, a European Commission initiative that aims to make and put in place new and innovative solution to city issues and showcase them in three cities of London, Milan and Lisbon.

A range of smart technology is being piloted such as smart lampposts, infrastructure for electric vehicles and Sustainable Energy Management Systems, which promotes sustainable and energy saving projects.
