Sensing the Park – the Internet of Things

Working alongside Intel and academic partners, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is embracing the Internet of Things. It is using a wide range of sensing technology to help harness data and use it to further improve the way the Park runs and how people experience it.

There are on-park weather stations and solar sensors already in place and giving real time information via the comprehensive Park Wi-Fi network. There is also now one of London’s first LoRa gateways (a special Wifi network for the Internet of Things) on the Park.

The next phase of this  project will see a wide deployment of more sensors measuring:

  • air quality
  • water quality
  • water height sensors
  • wildlife focussed sensors (including ultrasonic sensors to detect bat movement!)

This is one of London's leading Smart Cities and sustainability projects in the most connected urban park in the world.
