Mayor's Entrepreneur 2017

Working with us: Citi Foundation and Mayor’s Low Carbon Entrepreneur

The Low Carbon Entrepreneur is an annual competition run by the Mayor of London to find fresh new ideas to cut carbon emissions and give students employability skills.

It’s open to current students and recent graduates from London universities and colleges. Entrants must be 18 and over, and can enter as an individual or as a team.

It is supported by the Citi Foundation that is a part of Citi Group, which works to promote economic progress in communities across the world, and focuses on initiatives that expand financial inclusion.

The support is part of their Sustainable Progress Strategy, which is a five-year plan for serving their clients and promoting sustainable development. It is based on their commitment to innovation, responsible finance, client partnership, global finance, and strengthening the connection between environmental and social issues.

The campaign

The competition looks for ideas to help reduce carbon emissions in London. The ideas should be original and practical, and give clear detail about how they could be developed and turned into reality.

A £20,000 prize is offered to the winning idea alongside practical support to take it to market. At a glittering awards ceremony held at City Hall the winner is decided by a celebrity judging panel and will receive mentoring from us.

Partnership benefits

Citi Foundation receives a range of benefits as part of its support of the Low Carbon Entrepreneur that includes:

  • designation as the Mayor’s official Low Carbon Entrepreneur Partner
  • ability to promote partnership with the Mayor in all company literature
  • promotion of their sponsorship of the scheme across all London Universities and Colleges, engaging staff and students in the competition and Citi’s support of it
  • online advertising on student facing websites and leaflet distribution at London Universities
