Urban Food Awards

The third annual Urban Food Awards took place during the Urban Food Fortnight on 21 September 2016, delivered in partnership with Borough Market and London Food Link.

The Mayor was there to open the event which celebrates the fantastic small food and drink businesses London is home to.

The awards celebrate their products and best food practices as well as the people behind their success.

And the winners are...

Sadiq also presented an award for Best Surplus Food Initiative to Gourmet Goat (below) for their efforts in using sustainable British ingredients that would otherwise go to waste.

Voting and judging

Almost 3,500 Londoners voted for their favorites with an eventual three finalists in each of the 11 categories.

The winners of the ‘Food’ categories were chosen by a panel including London-based chefs Tom Hunt, Rowley Leigh and Oliver Rowe and food writer Olia Hercules. Taste was the all-important factor here.

The ‘People’ categories were chosen by a panel made up of the Urban Food Awards partners.

The panel considered how each finalist demonstrated sustainable practices, their contribution to the local economy and the social benefits they offered as well as the work done to produce positive health impacts.
