About the strategy

In his Economic Development Strategy, the Mayor sets out his plans to create a fairer, more inclusive economy that works for all Londoners and businesses.

The strategy has three main goals:

  • opening up opportunities – everyone should be able to benefit from all our city offers
  • growth – ensuring our economy will continue to thrive and is open to business
  • innovation – to make London a world leader in innovation, technology and a hub of new ideas and creativity

Public consultation

We held a three-month consultation on the draft strategy in December 2017. Responses were received from:

  • the public - through online discussion threads, surveys, emails, interviews, representative polling, and events
  • technical stakeholders - through an online webform, email, letter, and events

There was strong support for the Mayor’s vision and ambitions, and there were no major areas of policy opposition. However, several consultees suggested amendments or additions to the draft strategy’s policies and proposals.

These are explained in greater detail in Consultation Report and many have been incorporated into the final strategy.

Integrated Impact Assessment

We commissioned an Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) on the draft Economic Development Strategy.

This evaluated the environmental, health, community safety and equality impacts of the strategy's proposed policies in order to ensure they are fully considered and addressed. The recommendations were taken on board in the final strategy.

What's next?

In response to feedback received during the consultation period, we have produced an Implementation Plan for the strategy. This sets out what the Mayor will do between 2018 and 2023 to help achieve the ambitions in the strategy.
