London Regional GVA December 2011 release: Key figures

The 2010 Regional and 2009 Sub Regional Gross Value Added (GVA) data have been released by the Office for National Statistics. The estimates presented here are GVA at current prices and therefore are not adjusted to remove the effects of inflation.

  • In 2010 London, at 1.6 per cent, saw the smallest increase in GVA of all regions and countries of the UK, having had the greatest increase of 0.6 per cent in 2009
  • Regional GVA for London in 2010 was £274.1bn, an increase of £4.4bn or 1.6 per cent over the year
  • London produced 21.5 per cent of total UK GVA. The contribution of London to UK GVA has increased since 1997, when it accounted for 18.8 per cent
  • In 2009 Finance, Business, Professional and Real Estate Services together accounted for almost half (45.4 per cent) of London’s GVA on a workplace basis. These sectors accounted for 38.1 per cent of GVA in 1997
