The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan launched London’s first ever weekend Night Tube service in August 2016 – an exciting moment for London.

What is the Night Tube?

  • A 24-hour service now runs on the Central, Victoria, Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines on Fridays and Saturdays
  • Trains run every 10 or 20 minutes, depending on stations
  • This new service runs alongside existing Night Bus and taxi services
  • Information on services, fares, safety and more is on the Transport for London (TfL) website

What are the benefits of the Night Tube?

Nearly three-quarters of a million journeys have been made on the Central and Victoria line Night Tube services since their launch.

The Night Tube service supports thousands of workers who have to travel to or from work at night, provides huge economic benefits to our vital night-time economy and helps Londoners get home quickly and safely after a night out.

It is cutting late-night journey times by an average of 20 minutes and, in some cases, by more than an hour. It is helping Londoners get to work or get home at night quickly, safely and affordably.

According to TfL, 50 per cent of people who use Night Buses are going to or returning from work, so early morning and late-night shift workers can benefit from the Night Tube.

All of this is helping open up London’s night-time economy to new opportunities – benefitting theatres, live music venues, restaurants and more.

The Night Tube is playing a vital role in showing the world that #LondonIsOpen, by boosting London’s economy by £77m a year and supporting around 2,000 permanent jobs.

On the launch of the Night Tube, Sadiq said:

The launch of the Night Tube this evening is a truly exciting moment for London. It will support thousands of workers who have to travel to or from work at night, it will provide huge economic benefits to our vital night-time economy and it will help Londoners get home quickly and safely after a night out.

The Night Tube poem

Hussain Manawer’s poem, The Night Tube, describes how this service helps Londoners from all walks of life. This talented young poet teamed up with young music producer, Moghul Veyron, to create this short film.
