On 8th April 2019, the Mayor of London is introducing another Stealth Tax on businesses and individuals that keep London running (https://www.fors-online.org.uk/cms/uncategorized/ulez-where-and-when/)
Sadiq Khan is introducing a 24 hour Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), meaning vehicles driving within the new charging zones, who do not meet Euro 6 emissions will be charged £100.00 per day, in addition to the daily congestion charge of £11.50.
Be aware, if you drive within the ULEZ area across two days, for example before midnight and after midnight, you will be liable to pay two daily charges if your vehicle does not meet the ULEZ standards.
Initially this initiative was proposed to start in 2020 but the Mayor has brought plans forward to April 2019, with the intention to expand the charging zones across the North and South circular roads by 2020.
This is not enough time for businesses, individuals to comply. There is a lack of consultation and currently no emission reduction technologies in place, this requires more time for all effected to comply.
This is clearly a Stealth Tax, which will result in a hefty cost for us if our vehicles do not meet Euro 6 standards.
It is clear that London’s air needs to be cleaner and there existing solutions in place that have already improved the air quality within London and other major Conurbations. We do not object in principal to the ULEZ, but we would ask the Mayor to engage with us in a meaningful way before imposing this major change:
• Are you concerned about the proposed ULEZ?
• Are you aware of these new zones coming into place?
• Have you as a business or HGV driver already acted?
If you answered ‘No’ to these questions, then are you prepared to stand with us to get a phased introduction?
Locally and nationally we need to unite against the rapid introduction of this stealth tax.
