In our busy city it is difficult to find silence - traffic noise is a constant presence. But with the approach of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War I think it would be a fine thing if we could engineer, if not silence, at 11 o/c on the 11th then at least a reduction in traffic noise.
There can't be a person in London, wherever in the world are their roots, whose family was not touched by the first world war or by wars since.
Would it be impossible to permit (and encourage) bus drivers to pause on their routes for 2 minutes at 11? It would be a powerful statement of remembrance. Journeys delayed by 2 minutes would not be a massive hiatus in peoples' day would it?
Is there a route to make this suggestion to TfL?
What do you think?
