I have noticed there are numerous 20 zones that have now been implemented on major red routes in London.
I think the implementation has been appalling. There is very little public awareness of this and where the zones do exist, the 20 signs are extremely small to the extent they are poorly visible in the context of other street signs, advertising screens on pavements etc
To add to this TFL has put speed cameras in many of the locations, such as Holloway Road and New Cross which will catch innocent motorists who haven’t spotted the 20 signs due to attention being focused on other things eg pedestrians and box junctions.
Cyclists often easily exceed 20mph and accordingly it is hard to ensure they stick to these limits
I feel the 20 zones are unnecessary given on red routes there are often ample pedestrian crossing facilities and wide pavements. As a bus user I find buses crawl along so slowly it’s often better to use the tube in areas with large 20 zones
I am concerned TFL will seek to expand this unnecessary speed limit to other roads. Please stop this
