A big thank you to everyone who commented in this discussion on London’s recovery from COVID-19.
We saw a lot of support for the agreed aims of the London Recovery Board, in particular for the focus on a greener London and to ensure that the most vulnerable Londoners are looked after as well. A few of you raised concerns around housing and support for London’s cultural sector.
We have summarised your views below, and have shared all your feedback with the recovery team at their first meeting.
Protecting jobs and businesses
Many of you reflected on sustained changes to Londoners’ working patterns that would affect where we work, how we work, and how we move around the city. A number of you emphasised the need for a green economic recovery, and placed importance on local regeneration. A few of you also raised specific concerns about London’s cultural sector.
Supporting the most vulnerable Londoners
London’s recovery needs to work for London’s most vulnerable people, and many of you commented that their needs should be central and listened to. A few of you mentioned homeless Londoners, older Londoners and those with health issues.
Keeping young people safe
While a lot of you agreed with the focus on young people, you also highlighted the need to create opportunities for young people -whether through funding youth services or supporting employment and skills.
Narrow social, economic and health inequalities
Many of you recognised that it is not just about looking at social, economic and health outcomes – but that we need to address the root structures of housing, employment, and access to healthcare if we want things to change.
A cleaner, greener London
This aim was the most commented on. Most of you felt that that delivering against this aim will also help to deliver the others and several of you noted that one of the positives from lockdown has been the improvement to air quality and your health.
Thanks again for taking part – we will keep you updated on the next steps for the recovery programme and more opportunities to have your say on the London you want.
