As trees filter pollutants from the air they are essential to improving the air quality of London.
1. The Mayor of London should make it policy for any tree that is felled in the capital to be replaced immediately/as soon as possible thereafter.
2. Year on year there should be an increase in the number of trees in the capital.
These suggestions would not only improve the air quality of London, but at the same time create a healthier and greener city for children, and natural habitats for wild life.
I have just heard of two occasions where trees are being felled without any consultation with the surrounding community - in the borough of Camden. In fact it turned out that one tree was felled by mistake!
In my own street in Lewisham trees have been removed and not replaced.
