Our we really living in modern times? One would not thinks so given the mountain of Fly Tipping London has to endure. Instead of a garden city we have Fly Tipping.
I actually blame all the London Councils because they choose to charge for the collection of all furniture and electrical items. In my local borough Enfield the Council charges a ridiculous collection fee which is a weekly food shop for many. Unfortunate for those that do not owe a car as it means they will not have the luxury of disposing any unwanted items at their local recycling centre for free. Enfield Council would respond by informing me that it cost to the council to have a driver and vehicle to collect items on a weekly or monthly basis within the borough.
Yet, Fly Tipping scattered here and there or some mountain heap somewhere has to be collected by the council at some point but not before they have a really good public moan that these Fly Tipping collections are costing the public millions, however if these council staff where mindful by not charging for a collection fee then there would undoubtedly be no Fly Tipping!
Anyway, the Council could afford not to charge for such collections given that there is huge money to be made from recyclable items now days.
Retrospectively, I believe if the Rag and Bone men still existed Fly Tipping would be not be an issue.
Given that we are all rightly encouraged to embrace the Environment with love, care and respect , it would be wonderful and ideal if the Rag and Bone Men where once again a feature in London, preferably with the ' Horse ', at least the horses dose not cause pollution and their waste would come in very useful for gardens and allotments.
In essence, the Rag and Bone Men would put an end to Fly Tipping for good and the council's would be saving millions of the public's money to be spent on other much needed local services. .Yes,even on Festive Lights to enliven the spirits and trade given last years meanness by Enfield.
