As somebody who cares for the natural environment and enjoys the aspect of walking very much, I was really looking forward to Palmers Green N13 becoming what Enfield Council promised, a environmentally friendly area for pedestrians/cyclist. It would become a walkers paradise which would discourage people from relying on their cars all the time. Well, the painted picture is the opposite of the reality now that the works have almost come to an end. Hand on heart, I literately cried. The results are awful.
The mistakes made towards pedestrians are so visibly apparent and doubt that Enfield Council staff will now care to correct them. Enfield Council were the wrong people for whole planning of this scheme . Also, it all looks so very cheaply done. It has made walking and crossing the road more dangerous then ever, it has given cars the opportunity over take as islands have been removed on larger crossings of Green Lanes which is worrying when crossing a large road without island will put pedestrians in harms way should a speeding police car or ambulance appears, one way roads have become oddly two way roads, further along Green Lanes opposite Iceland there is an island with a high kerb and usable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, anybody can trip over in rushing. Coming of the bus on cycle lane?
Greenery? Enfield Council promised us that they will put the 'Green' in Palmers Green. They promised 11 trees in the area. They have planted 3 trees (of one was a replacement they chopped down few years ago to peoples horror as there was nothing wrong with it) Our large lovely planting areas near the Triangle have been shrunk to small patches. Its ls really horrible ghost town now. It would do nothing to help our struggling shopping area given that the location is is ideal with a railway in PG and en-route destination.
The London Mayor literally bombarded my home with leaflets for his election, will he now care to intervene and help make Palmers Green a promising place?
