Question

Research by the Nuffield Trust has cast doubt on cost-savings arising from integrated healthcare plans. In some cases, for example, hospital admissions went up as new programmes simply discovered unmet need. What steps are you and the London Health Board taking to ensure service transformation plans are built on realistic savings and admissions reduction targets in London?

Answer

Cost savings from integrated care

As part of my commitment to champion and challenge the NHS I will be applying my six tests to major health and care transformation and service reconfiguration plans in London. These tests, which must be met before I offer my support to such plans, include the requirement that bed capacity and financial plans are credible.
