Answer

National Funding Formula

National Funding Formula

I feel it is unacceptable that under the new National Funding Formula schools in every single one of the capital’s 33 local authorities suffer a real term funding cut. Two-thirds of London schools are receiving only the minimum increase of 0.5 per cent per pupil, which compares with just 35 per cent of schools in this situation across the rest of England. The national teacher pay increase, while helping value our great London teachers, also puts more pressure on these school budgets.

Schools’ spending on teacher training has also dropped for the first time this decade despite a teacher retention and recruitment crisis. I raised my serious concerns on school funding with Damian Hinds, Secretary of State for Education, in October 2018, and I will continue to monitor the effects on our London schools over this school year working with London Councils.
