Transport for London (TfL) is very sorry for the continuing delay to the introduction of the new fleet of electric trains on the Gospel Oak to Barking line and shares its customers’ frustration. It is working very hard with all parties to bring the new trains into passenger service as soon as possible and to minimise disruption in services to its customers.

Initial driver familiarisation on the new trains has begun, so customers will start to see them along the line during service hours. Once software issues are resolved, driver training will start in earnest. Once driver training is sufficiently progressed, there will be more certainty on when the new trains might enter passenger service.

TfL and I am under no illusion about the inconvenience and uncertainty to customers caused by the delay in the new trains becoming available. In light of this, I have spoken directly with Bombardier and secured a month's free travel for passengers once the new trains are fully introduced. The details of this are being developed and will be communicated closer to the time.
