Question

The Scottish Government is giving local authorities the power to issue Compulsory Sale Orders on derelict buildings and land in order to deter land banking and improve the public realm. Would you welcome such a measure being introduced in England?

Answer

Compulsory Sale Orders

Compulsory Sale Orders

I welcome any new powers that would bring derelict or vacant land back into beneficial use.  Last year I commissioned a report, Capital Gains, which sets out how the process of assembling land for housing could be improved. It concluded that I should be given greater powers over Compulsory Purchase Orders in London, particularly where developments are at risk of delay.
