In September 2018 you told the Police and Crime Committee that a pilot diversion scheme for female offenders would be introduced in early 2019. What progress has been made on the scheme so far and what early impact is it having?

Following competitive tendering, Advance Advocacy & Non-Violence Education Partnership has been appointed to provide community-based services for adult female offenders referred by the Police to the pilot. Trauma informed, and gender-specific interventions tailored to addressing the individual and often complex needs of female offenders will be provided in women centres by specialist keyworkers.  The Met are now working with the providers to roll out training to officers as well to finalise processes for the new service. Service mobilisation is currently in progress and it is anticipated that the project will be operational in early August.

The first evaluation report for this pilot will be completed in Summer 2020.
