TfL selects its contractors based on a number of factors including safety performance and bidders must meet specified standards in a competitive process to be awarded contracts.  Once contracts have been awarded, TfL has rigorous processes in place to ensure its contracted services operate safely, holding contractors to account for their safety and operational performance and working with them to continue to improve.  Furthermore, transport operators are subject to national regulation on safety, and independent scrutiny from the Office of Rail and Road and other relevant bodies.
