On 3rd May 2018 Jim Boyling was dismissed from the Met without notice after a gross misconduct case against him was found to be proven. This followed an independently overseen investigation by Operation Herne, that covered the deployment of undercover officers.  He was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in relation to honesty and integrity, authority, respect and courtesy, orders and instructions, and discreditable conduct.

There are two other ongoing investigations in relation to former officers alleged to have been involved in sexual relationships.
