The table below shows all notifiable offences broken down by screening decision. Each crime undergoes a primary investigation as per the 'Crime Screening and Secondary Investigation Standard Operating Procedures' and after this the CRIS record is either screened 'In' for further investigation or screened 'Out' where there is little likelihood of the crime being solved.

The MPS Crime Assessment Policy is designed to empower officers to make judgments about whether it would be proportionate to continue further with an investigation in some lower level crimes - this does not mean that they are not investigated at all, but that it may not be proportionate to do so. This may include cases where investigative opportunities are limited, the value of damage or the item stolen is under £50 or that victims are not willing to support a prosecution.
